Neil began his undergraduate training programme at the University of Leeds (UK) in 1990. In 1994, he represented the University of Leeds in the Dental Protection Society Student Elective Competition. Neil beat representatives from all thirteen dental schools in Great Britain and Northern Ireland to win this prestigious National Award. While still a student Neil had research published at a peer reviewed forum in 1995.
Upon completion of his undergraduate programme, he was awarded his degree (B.Ch.D) with Honours for his performance over the five-year course. He graduated first in his class in 1995 and is the only graduate to be awarded a Distinction in the final degree examinations in recent years.
After qualifying in 1995, he was successful in obtaining a position as a Senior House Officer in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Leeds General Infirmary. He held this post for two years, gaining experience in oral surgery, facial trauma, cleft-lip and palate surgery, facial surgery and cancers affecting the head and neck.
Neil then spent the next four years in general dental practice in Leeds and Sheffield. Neil has also spent time teaching under-graduates extraction techniques in Charles Clifford Dental School (Sheffield, England). During this time Neil worked towards obtaining his Fellowship of Dental Surgery (MFDS RCS), which was awarded by the Royal College of Surgeons of England in April 1999. Later that year he was admitted to the Faculty of General Dental Practitioners (MFGDP RCS) after presenting a selection of cases which he had treated in general practice and completing the necessary Royal College of Surgeons examinations.
Neil returned to the University of Leeds to begin his specialist training in Orthodontics in 2001. He obtained his Membership of Orthodontics from the Royal College of Surgeons of England (M. Orth RCS) and was awarded his Masters Degree with Merit in 2004 (M.Dent. Sci), followed by admission to the specialist register in the United Kingdom and New Zealand.
In October 2004, Neil purchased Trevor Leigh's practice and took over the care of patients under treatment with Dr. Leigh. Neil is the only specialist in the region with experience in oral surgery, general practice dentistry and orthodontics. His broad range of experience, qualifications and prizes allows Neil to provide the highest quality of care to his patients.
